On November 25th, ASUS's Sustainability and Green Quality Management Center hosted a documentary and panel discussion event about "Taiwan Pangolin: The Last Hope for Global Pangolins." The event featured not only the conservation documentary but also invited Executive Director Tsui-Jai Hong from Kuan-Shu Education Foundation and Dr. Ching-Min Sun from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology to share insights on their collaboration with ASUS on the "Daxue Mountain Middle-Altitude Pangolin Habitat Enhancement and Conservation Project." The event attracted numerous employees, offering an unique opportunity to delve into ASUS's efforts in natural environment protection.

The documentary explored the current status of Taiwan's pangolins, focusing on the threats to their survival and the conservation efforts of Taiwanese activists. Titled "Taiwan Pangolin: The Last Hope for Global Pangolins," the film highlighted how Taiwan's pangolin population has drastically decreased due to human hunting and habitat loss. Dr. Sun, who has researched Taiwan's pangolins for over 15 years, shared his research on their ecological habits and the challenges they face in Taiwan. Beyond habitat destruction, attacks from stray dogs have emerged as a significant threat to Taiwan's pangolins. Despite these enormous challenges, conservationists continue to promote awareness and actively engage in rescue and rehabilitation efforts to ensure the survival of Taiwan's pangolins.

ASUS promotes its sustainability strategy through "data-driven measurement and technology-based management." This year, ASUS took a further step in environmental protection by publishing ASUS Natural Capital Map and participating in the pangolin habitat maintenance project in the mid-elevation areas of Daxue Mountain, dedicated to restoring natural habitats.

The two experts, Executive Director Hong and Dr. Sun, shared their experiences and insights with ASUS employees. Hong shared the project's origins, mentioning how the Kuan-Shu Education Foundation discovered pangolin traces while guiding farmers in grass cultivation techniques in Daxue Mountain, sparking his interest in these creatures. Second, Dr. Sun then elaborated on the ecological value of pangolins. He emphasized their crucial role in ecosystems, particularly noting that pangolins and their prey, ants, are not in competition but rather create a symbiotic relationship. The ants left behind by foraging pangolins become food for other nearby ants, revitalizing the local ecological chain. Their presence is thus vital for maintaining biodiversity.

Both experts shared their most memorable experiences and encouraged everyone to contribute to environmental and animal conservation in their daily lives. Dr. Sun specifically advised that if wild animals are found in urban environments, people should contact professional institutions and provide safe environments for pangolins, such as completely dark, enclosed spaces, to ensure their safety and health.

The Sustainability and Green Quality Management Center, in collaboration with the Taichung Branch of the Taiwan's Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, provided small gifts to participating employees, including pangolin-themed sticky notes, cinnamon oil patches, and cinnamon cookies. These thoughtful gifts not only added to the event's appeal but also deepened participants' understanding and empathy for pangolin protection.

Looking ahead, the Sustainability and Green Quality Management Center plans to continue organizing diverse activities and eagerly anticipates the participation of ASUS employees in future initiatives!
